For some languages there are limited options (e.g. no male Finnish voices.) It sometimes takes multiple attempts to generate text, which can be very very frustrating.

Lacks iOS and Android apps, or a browser plugin. This means you must manually copy/paste content into their web app. As of 2024, the "neural" voices offered sound dated and unnatural. Other free tools now offer better quality. They claim to offer many voices and provide samples, but the actual selection for generating speech is limited—some voices/languages aren't even available in the drop-down menu. I tried opening a support ticket, but the form "conveniently" returned a 500 server error.

You can only synthesis <3000 English characters (characters, not words) at once, and after about 10 audio, you cannot produce audio anymore in the same day - there is likely some kind of rate limiting. So the unlimited or 1M character quota is exaggerated. I am buying this to make audiobooks for my private listening, but the actual rate limit prevent this. No response from support for weeks. Would suggest use read-it-later services with AI voice, or iOS/ Safari's VoiceOver feature instead.
